If you want to see the beauty of Del Norte County, July is the perfect time to participate in all of the great activities. From our 4th of July Celebratio, to spending time on the river, or attending the local farmer’s market, there is fun for everyone.

37th Annual Jed Smith Mountain Men Tall Trees Rendezvous

This annual event brings powder shooters and their families from all over.  It is held at the Del Norte Rod & Gun Club, 1.5 miles up Rowdy Creek Road in Smith River.  They have a variety of camping types available, along with a Trader’s Row.  There will be shooting competitions for men, women & youth (ages 5 years and up).

Spectators are welcome to come visit the encampment and wander through Trader’s Row between June 29th & July 3rd.  You will see campers dressed in the clothing, and engaging in the handicrafts, of the mountain men era.  Come and see how people used to live and work!

Join the Del Norte Child Care Council for this family fun event, held at Elk Creek, behind the Cultural Center and the Fred Endert Municipal Pool. Bring your sack lunch, sand toys, sun screen and be ready to have fun! Look for the balloons and be creative.

4th Annual Palmer Westbrook Ranch BBQ Wars Annual Battle at the Beach

New this year, the annual BBQ Wars will be held on the 3rd of July. This is your opportunity to test your BBQ recipe and expertise against others and prove you’re the best.

There will be 1st & 2nd place trophies; 1st place will also receive a $150 cash award and a cooler with Oat Hill Organic Beef.
The 2nd place winner will receive a $50 cash award along with their trophy.
People’s Choice category winners split the proceeds from ticket sales for the chance to judge; the overall winner for the People’s Choice will win a trophy and 25 lbs. of beef.
Entry is $35 for each meat type and $10 to enter in the People’s Choice competition.
Check in starts at 11:00am. Cook off areas must be cleaned and vacated by 9:00pm.

Art Festival

The Coast Redwoods Art Association hosts this annual art festival at the Cultural Center. You will find a wide variety of work by local and non-local artists, from woodwork to oil painting to jewelry to photography to note cards, quilts and other fabric art and much more.It runs from 4:00pm to 8:30pm on the 3rd and from 10:00am to 5:00pm on the 4th.Call (707) 464-9133 for more information.

Coast Guard Mural Dedication

This is the fourth mural located at our new tsunami resistant harbor. It took one year to complete and depicts the 4 Coast Guard Assets assigned to this port to protect our fishing community and staffed by Coast Guard Auxiliarists. A large compass rose with the Auxiliary’s emblem forms the center of the mural. The dedication will take place on Friday July 3rd at 12:00 noon in the big boat basin on “B” dock.The mural was created by Elk Valley Artisans. The project was managed and designed by Harley and Jill Munger of Piece by Piece Pottery and constructed by local youth.Grantors on this project include Elk Valley Artisans, Friends of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S Bank, Humboldt Area Foundation, Sunrise Rotary International, Wild Rivers Community Foundation and Piece by Piece Pottery.

Crescent City 4th of July Fun Run

July 4

1158 North Pebble Beach Drive,

Registration for this 5K walk and 5K/10K run begins at 8:00am at the first turnout south of Washington Blvd. on Pebble Beach Drive in Crescent City. Fireworks are shot off of the Front Street Jetty near Battery Point Lighthouse.

This is a HUGE town celebration with a parade through downtown starting at 10:00am.
There will be food, merchandise, and game booths at Beachfront Park all day following the parade.
One of the biggest fireworks show on the north coast starts after 9:00pm. Fireworks are shot over the beautiful Battery Point Lighthouse for an amazing display.Call the Chamber for more information or to be a part of this Crescent City tradition, 707-464-3174.

46th Annual Gasquet Raft Races

July 11
10am – 4pm

American Legion Hall
1555 Gasquet Flat Road, Gasquet

The American Legion will be hosting the 46th annual raft races. This is a fun time with decorated rafts, where participants often come in costume.
The fee is $15.00 for each person in the raft. Entry fee for the Raft Race includes a souvenir T-shirt for each paying participant. Registration begins at 10:00am at the forks with the raft races start at 12 noon.
Plaques will be awarded to the winner of each category. Best Costume and Most Decorated/Unusual Raft categories will be awarded an additional cash prize.If you come to the raft races you’ll surely want to stay for the deep pit barbecue at the American Legion Hall that follows the race. Dinners are still only $8.50!

16th Annual Relay for Life

The 16th Annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life takes place on the high school track starting at 10:00am Saturday. Downtown Crescent City Farmers & Artisans Market

Sponsored by the Business Improvement District, this seasonal Downtown Crescent City Farmers & Artisans Market begins June 3rd and ends October 28th. Held in the Del Norte County Fairgrounds parking lot, the Crescent City Farmers Market will run every week 9:00am – 1:00pm from June 6th to October 31st. The only exception is the Saturday of the Del Norte County Fair, which is August 8th. For more information, call 707-464-7441.
